Suds & Buds
Suds & Buds was a brewery crawl that revolved around drinking responsibly, held in my current city of residence, Duluth Minnesota. Duluth has a huge brewery scene and while I love the environment and trying drinks, I’ve always been a very social and casual drinker. I thought this project was a fun way to expand on that passion while constructing an event that isn’t encouraging drinking in any sort of unhealthy manner.
This is the final poster, for Suds & Buds. The logo was a huge amount of my time spent on this project, but it was easy to build off it after it’s final iteration. Matching the colors of the beer and water, taking those shapes and making a single fused center shape helps the imagery of the logo in a larger scale. The stars add layers if design to the project while not cluttering the page. The text hierarchy also balances the design and information, letting the imagery sit above the text and draw attention while still construing the information needed.
I started with a rough copy of the google maps view of Duluth, but it didn’t match the visual language of the rest of the project at all. I then roughly illustrated it using colors from the logo and giving it a cohesive feeling with the logos design.
One of my favorite pieces from this project was the schedule, I thought it would be fun and unique to create one that felt printed with paint almost. It has large thick type and no imagery, an almost old military feel but still utilizing the colors from the logo.
The program started as my poster, but held too much information so it became my program. It has everything needed to go and know what is happening and when, and manages to hold text in a visually interesting way.
